Sangay

Volcano number: 352090
Region: South America
Country: Ecuador
Geodetic measurements? Yes
Deformation observation? Yes
Measurement method(s): InSAR
Duration of observation: 2007-2011
Inferred cause of deformation: Surface deposits
Characteristics of deformation:

During a regional ALOS survey of Northern Andes Volcanoes, Sangay was found to have consistent motion towards the satellite on the southwest flank at 1.3 ± 0.4 cm/year and away from the satellite on the southeast flank at 4.3 ± 0.4 cm/year (Morales Rivera et al., 2016). Given the satellite look direction, the measured motion is attributed to downhill motion of the steep flanks of the volcano by 3-5 cm/year
